According to a 2012 World Health Organization (WHO) report, only nine million units of blood are collected annually, while the need persists for 12 million units. The short shelf life of the blood makes it a pressing need to replenish the blood banks on a regular basis. This can be only done through promoting the donation of blood amongst healthy individuals.

Understanding the gravity and importance of this issue, Sankalp-Jiva partners with the city based Blood Banks to promote voluntary blood donation amongst healthy individuals. This initiative is one of the oldest activities of Sankalp and was started in 2011 and takes place every year. The Blood Donation Drive organized by Sankalp supports blood transfusions of patients suffering from Thalassemia and Cancer in Hyderabad.

Thalassemia is a genetic condition, where there is an insufficient production of red blood cells and results eventually in Anemia. The common form of treatment is through regular blood transfusions. The patients need blood transfusions once in every 2-3 weeks in order to stay healthy and survive this deadly genetic disorder. In India, it is recorded that over 1, 00,000 people are suffering from Thalassemia, 8,000 people are reported with it every year and thousands go unreported.

Every year Sankalp organizes Blood Donation Drive at Sathguru premises with the assistance of a trusted Blood Bank. This initiative is supported by the staff and alumni of Sathguru Management Consultants. It also sees participation from the friends and family of the associates of Sathguru Management Consultants.
