A FIRST GENERATION LEARNER – NIDHI SINGH

Nidhi-case-study

Nidhi Singh, an 11 year old, hails from a family of migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh. She is the first girl in her family amongst five siblings to go to school. Life hasn’t been very pleasant for Nidhi. The family faces high economic burden of providing for shelter, food & education to five children. Her older siblings had to discontinue education and were made to join factories to meet family needs. Nidhi had also faced the situation where she had to leave school and work to make the household ends meet. The team from Sankalp intervened, counselled her parents on the importance of education and its long term benefits. She joined her school back. Nidhi is now supported under the ‘Sankalp – Siksha’
