Ushering in Digital learning at Agricultural Forestry University – Nepal Official Launch of e-classrooms

June 2016

The Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) is the first and the only agricultural university in Nepal which was established in year 2010 in Rampur in Chitwan district. The aim of the university is to work towards all round development of agriculture and raise the socio economic conditions of rural people through teaching, research and extension.

The Agricultural Innovation Partnership (AIP) project in India has revolutionized agricultural education by introduction of updated courses through its curriculum development initiative and also knowledge access and delivery through various E-Learning platforms. The project also has significantly contributed to faculty learning, development of private sector and entrepreneurship, and women empowerment.

After recording considerable success in e-learninginitiatives during AIP India, Cornell-Sathguru replicatedits success model inAIP-Nepal. Surpassing the barriers of reach, Sathguru implemented low cost high impact technologies to Video collaborate and seamlessly bring digital class rooms between diverse geographic locations of AFU Campuses in Nepal. Supplemented by a Server hosting e –learning platform with curated content for Under Graduate course in Agriculture at AFU’s Rampur campus, digital class rooms will bring in domain experts to disseminate knowledge benefiting over 1000 students across AFU. After endless efforts and planning under this initiative, E-learning classrooms were officially launched at AFU Nepal by Sathguru in June 2016. Mr. Anantha Murthy,Information specialist from Sathguru played a lead role in launching it on ground. This is a game changing paradigm for AFU that is ushering a more engaging and cost efficient way of teaching delivery in a resource constrained environment.
