Hospitality industry professionals to do a reality check at a Cornell and Sathguru initiative.

Hyderabad, 30th March 07:

“I am empowered, will empower others, and I adore it,” said Rajiv Kumar, General Manager (Business Excellence), Indian Hotels Company Ltd. after the July 2006 edition of Cornell – Sathguru initiated hotel management program.

Continuing with the impact created in the previous program, Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration, New York, USA and Sathguru Management Consultants will hold the second edition of hotel management program for senior executives of hospitality industry, strategically based on the theme “Managing Strategic Growth and Leadership in Emerging Markets.”

The program will be conducted from 4th to 8th June, 2007 in the sprawling 3500 acres of ICRISAT campus, Hyderabad.

Managing Strategic Growth and Leadership in Emerging Markets program is designed to meet the needs of the rapidly growing hospitality industry in Asia - Pacific region. The program will focus on three distinct components – strategy, marketing and revenue optimization. The strategic planning module will expose the participants to gaining competitive advantage by merging value chain activities with building blocks of competitive advantage. The module will highlight common pitfalls of management decision and the ways to avoid them. Comprehensive analysis will relate to many facets of strategy encompassing infrastructure, manufacturing, research and development, marketing, materials management, human resources, growth through organic and in-organic options, and valuation principles.

The module on strategic marketing for hotels and restaurants will offer participants innovative, practical, and profitable approaches for addressing marketing challenges through classroom discussions, case studies, and real-life examples. Using a proprietary model (S.M.A.R.T marketing), the participants will discuss “best practice” examples from successful global hotel and restaurant businesses like how they deal with business challenges in the changing environment.

The course will provide intensive exposure to challenges relating to improving revenue, profit, and customer loyalty. Exposure will relate to understanding intricacies of franchising models and management contracts as well. Participants will feel confident to transform strategies into action at the end of the program participation.

In this highly competitive market, establishing leadership in emerging markets requires organizations and properties to adopt sound strategies, apply best practices and maximize revenue with care and customer focus. The ability of enterprises to grow in this environment will depend upon adopting best practices in managing strategic growth and in establishing leadership in the emerging markets. It is in this context that a program like this will go a long way in leveraging existing resources to its potential.

The earlier program had attracted participation of senior executives from well known hotels from Middle East and South Asia apart from India. Some of the leading hotel chains that participated are the Al Habtoor group, Serena Hotels, the Oberoi Group, the Taj Group of Hotels, the ITC-Welcom Group, Radisson Hotels, apart from several other leading individual properties from South Asia and UAE.
