The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), Cornell University has four areas of academic priority directed at land-grant missions, applied social sciences, environmental sciences, and new life sciences. Agriculture is the college's unique contribution to Cornell's land-grant mission. CALS conducts both applied and basic research and extension programs as it addresses needs through academic programs directed at training for leadership roles in industries of critical importance.

 Various departments of CALS work towards ensuring and encouraging better standards for nutritional value, safety and quality foods. Several publishing’s like the extension bulletins at the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management are intended for practitioners and decision-makers to provide information from a scholarly perspective.

Extension programs that focus on food production systems and sustainable agro ecosystem management also inform agricultural stakeholders of economic, social, and technological developments relevant to agricultural systems in order to enhance and maintain productive and sustainable farms which are able to respond to a changing world.
